I have a 9 yr old american bulldog that is super needy, when he goes outside he comes to the door IMMEDIATELY and starts whining/barking to be let back in. I know he hasn't gone to the bathroom because he sits right by the door. He just started doing this, this month. I noticed when we take him out he pees on the patio right by the door and he's never done that before. Suddenly he has started pooping in the house and no matter how long we leave him outside he won't go, he just freaks out and wants back in. I don't know what to do, I am at my whits end. Oh he goes to the vet quite often and is healthy.

I have a 11 yr. old cocker spaniel who doesn't like to go in wet grass and pees on the steps, etc close to the door too. He also has full use of a doggie door to go in and out whenever he wants and will still not go out periodically to go to potty--I have to practically push him out the door. I think the main thing is that he is lazy! Maybe your dog is lazy too or has arthritis? Anyway I wonder if you put him on a leash and walked him to an area that you want him to go do his duties--keep repeating till he finally gets the 'hang' of it. Don't keep picking the poo up--keep some there and even take the poo from the house and put in that outside area you want him to go. When he does poo where you want him to go (even when you 1st start him with the leash)--praise him like he did the best thing in the world and give him a treat. If he is really stubborn---Don't give him any treats at any other time---If he figures out he is never going to get treats at any other time--WELL!!
