For those of you with breeds with erect ears. How long would you give your dog's ears to stand up before you tape them?

You need to consider teething. This is the primary reason breeds with natural standing ears may not stand up to 7 or even 8 months. During teething the calcium is going to the teeth, meaning diverted. Once the adult teeth come in in most cases is when the ears will begin to stand and stay erect. Prior to this, they will occasionally go up for a time then fall. Do not be discouraged nor tape during this period. If they are meant to stand, they will.

Akita's ears usually come up between 3 and 6 months...It is also common for them once an ear comes up to drop again and then come back up this was the case with Seigi...Both of his ears were up by 4 months but they should not come up later then 6 months old with this breed.

Thanks! She's only a bit over 3 months so she's probably on track. They've definitely perked up about 1/2 way but I read somewhere online that you should consider taping them if they're not up by 4 months. I thought I'd double check with you all. I'm glad I found this forum.

With this breed it can take up to 6 mths so unless their not up by a little after 6 mths I would not tape them and in all honesty if they don't come up by then taping won't always help...My breeder is having a problem with that now...She has a pup that's a little over 6 mths who's ears have not come up...She's started taping them to try and help them along but shortly after taking the tape off they drop again...She said she'll try for another month or so but if it doesn't work after that it's not going to..
