I need help identifying my dogs breed.I got it form a friend for my birthday. She says that she's a 100% sure that the pup is a japanese akita inu,but im not so sure.I was looking at pictures on the internet and it looks more like a samoyed to me.Please tell me what do you think.

BTW Inu just means dog in Japanese so you can just say Akita ^_^

Just a couple questions
Do you have any reason to believe your friend is wrong?
Why just the Samoyed? There are many other breeds of white and fluffy haha

Since the puppy is pretty young it is hard to know what breed the puppy actually is because as a young pup breeds can look similar because they have not developed enough.

No,I have no reason to think my friend is wrong I'm just wondering because a lot of people who saw her seem to think she's a Samoyed, they are not experts though. So I was looking at different pictures of Akita and Samoyed puppies and it looked more like a Samoyed to me because they have longer hair like my puppy. And I know inu means dog

You'll have to wait until he or she is at least 9 months, perhaps a year, before you can know what sort of breed she is. Did your friend not see the mother and the rest of the litter?

Yes,she did.She claims that the puppy is a japanese akita. But all the akita puppies that I saw on different pictures have shorter hair than my puppy....I dont know I guess I'm just curious.I appreciate your reply.

Those pictures are almost a month old.I will post some new ones soon

It's beyond my experience that someone would give someone a dog as a present! I'd always want to choose my own puppy. Did she not take any photos of the mother and the rest of the litter for you? What a pity.

The only thing to do is wait until she has matured and then see what she turns out to be!

You might want to take a look at this page.

It says that Sayomeds are one of the rare breed of dogs and are very expensive in comparison to other breeds. BUT that does not mean you should cross it off your list (becaause I've got a Formosan, which you've probably never heard of).

I think you should ask your friend what the other puppies looked like. If they are ALL white then you probably are looking at a Sayomed instead of an Akita because Akita comes in different colours (plus white Akita are 'rarer').

You can always get her DNA tested if you really want to!
