Default Unanswered: dog stung multiple times by yellow jackets

My dog Isis went along with a friend of my and her dog (who happens to be my dog's brother) on a 3 mile hike. Half way through the hike, we were taking a break and letting the dogs play in the water from a nearby water fall when suddenly Isis starts running like crazy and rolling on the ground. She didn't yelp, just wouldn't hold still. Suddenly she started pawing at her face, and we realized that she and her brother had stirred up a yellow jacket nest, but they were mostly attacking Isis. Her brother was just chasing her because he thought it was a game. We finally caught her and managed to get some of the bees off, but as we were doing this, they started swarming, so we grabbed the dogs and ran. Once we were clear, we finished getting the yellow jackets off Isis and the couple off Gus. Based on the amount of insects on Isis, I'd say she was stung a minimum of 10 times, if not more. We sat down for a little, as the dogs were now scared and tired, and we were tired too (some how the humans managed to avoid being stung). Isis laid down and licked her paws and legs for a bit, and we put some cold water on her face and ears. She was licking a bit like they'd stung her in the mouth. All this happened around 3:00 pm. We rested for about 10 minutes and then hiked back. Isis acted fine the whole way back, except for paranoia that caused her to flitch from every flying insect.

It's now 6:30 pm, and Isis is still acting fine, but I wasn't sure if I should be worrying about her being in pain still, or having a delayed reaction, or if the fact that she's acting normal means we're in the clear. Should I be worried about the stings in her mouth swelling and cutting off her breathing, even though it's two hours later?

Just being an over protective mom, I guess.

Thanks for any advice.

Wish I'd seen this post sooner! Hopefully your dog is still okay! I found a couple links on the net that you stii might want to check out: Dog Tip: Remedies for Insect Stings and Bites, Hot Spots and other Skin Conditions

http://forums.somd.com/dogs/79691-my...w-jackets.html

Sounds like you need to watch your dog for 24 hrs!! Hope that windpipe doesn't swell up and not be able to breathe!! Why do 'emergencies' always happen on weekends!? I wouldn't hesitate to take him to an emergency clinic if things change even a little bit---May not be able to breathe!

Thanks for the advice. Isis did great through the night and is back to her 100% normal self, annoying our cats. She's not even tired anymore (unfortunately, cause my lovely normal untired Isis is a pain in the butt). Thanks so much for your concern. Isis and I appreciate it.
