Default Unanswered: Male on Male in Heat issue?

Another concern here ...

We have another dog ... also a male, who is 7 years old. As soon as we brought our new dog into the house the older one began acting as though the younger one was in heat. Strange I know. But everything he does is the exact same as when he around a female in heat.

He's been licking his ears, eyes, and mouth. As well as crying nonstop and trying to mount/hump him. I realize the if it is some kind of "male heat" it will be done in about a week, but the whining of the other male is almost unbearable. (Neither are fixed and at the moment we would prefer to leave it that way.)

Any suggestions would be welcome.

Thanks!

It is perfectly normal dog behaviour. Your older dog is showing the youngster he is boss. He is literally "top dog". It is a sexual behaviour obviously, it is how dogs mate, but it is also a form of communication. When my two terriers play the younger male is always the one to get fed up first. When he stops playing the older bitch will hump him and he will roll over onto his back - she's saying "I'm still boss" and he is agreeing. It is an important communication tool.

"fixing" increases life span and decreases health issues... the bigger plus, it decreases the chances of overpopulating the already population problem. 4 million dogs killed each year in this country in shelters, many more I am sure than we don't know about, drowned, shot... Spay and neuter, please, do it for the love of dogs and stop the killing. Thank You
