Default Unanswered: Golden Retriever help

I work at a dog daycare and boarding place, and we have a golden that comes in that i am absolutely in love with. I plan to get a golden retriever when i get my own place but i wont settle for less than this dog. I've never seen another golden that looks like him. have you guys? if so, what characteristics should i look for when he's a puppy?

yay personality is hard to tell in puppies sometimes. I think that has something to do with heredity but more to do with how the dog was raised and what it has been through. Honestly though i have been around many goldens and they are the sweetest most loving dogs. So i think if u just love the heck out of ur future dog, it will have a great personality.

As far as coloring i have seen other goldens with that color.. the specific one i am thinking of was real fluffy as a puppy with that light golden look to him, he seriously was a huge fluff ball when he was a pup and now he has a nice thick light golden coat, its really beautiful.

As far as facial features i think thats going to be tough. Because puppies change somewhat as they grow. Im honestly not even sure what to suggest when it comes to facial features and picking out ur pup.

I can say this even if u choose a pup and it turns out he doesnt turn out like this specific golden u will already be so in love with ur dog it wont even matter to u. Trust me i think my dog is absolutely the best dog in the whole world, but of course she really isnt. I think that u just end up thinking that bc its ur dog who u have raised and trained and taken care of..

Smile I love Goldens too!

I love Goldens too, although my dog was a mix of cocker spaniel/golden retriever. You can see him on my profile page in my album.
After having to put him down, I searched for another look alike--a hard thing to find if not a purebred! I am giving you a link to this mixture:
Golden Cocker Retriever Hybrid Information and Pictures Now I know you are looking for a 'pure' golden, but do you know for sure that the one you are looking at is all golden!? Did you talk to the owner to see if it is all golden? The link I gave you above--After looking at those pics--and be sure to scroll all the way down the pages as ads get in the middle of pics sometimes and it looks like you are at the end when you aren't and there are a couple pages of pics--see bottom of page..---You can go back to the home page and click on All Breeds to find the pure Golden. There is also a heading up there on the home page that will give you other breeds that are mixed with the Golden but I can't remember what the heading is called. You will prob. be able to figure it out. I will come back here and add the word to this post--So stay tuned as I will be right back!

Okay--Here is the link to the mixed breeds:Mutt Pictures and Photos, Mixed Breed Pictures

My dog didn't slobber at all either. Is this noted for the Golden!? I don't think so myself.

It may be the quality of your photo but I wonder if there is something else in there as well as the Golden Retriever? As you said he doesn't look quite the same as others.

Have you considered that he may be a cross breed? If so there is little chance of you finding an exact match. But surely the personality is more important than his looks? If you look for a young adult in a shelter or from a Retriever Rescue you will find lots of dogs with wonderful characters - far more likely to get what you are looking for that way than by buying a puppy just because of the way it looks.

He looks purebred to me. The majority of goldens have a nice temperment. If you want a purebred golden, check the shelters first. Petfinder.com can help you with that. You don't have to go just to your local shelter, you can search other shelters from other counties too. We got Luna from a shelter out of state. It was a 4 1/2 hour drive, but we love her to death and it was well worth the drive. If you get one from a breeder, make sure it is a reputable breeder that will allow you to return the dog if anything happens to you. In fact, if it is a reputable breeder, it should be in the contract. Expect to pay about $2,000 for a pet quality golden. There are reputable breeders that do sell pet quality goldens for less, but that's about the asking price for them. If you are not planning on showing your golden make sure you and your breeder understand that the dog will be fixed.

Talking

I just checked out your pics again--I love looking at Goldens. I can see why you want this one--Those eyes for sure. I'd like one like him too! Hope you find one you like but as everyone else has said---It is the personality that really counts. I know you said you won't get a dog till you have your own place but is that soon or a while 'down the road?' What if you find THE dog now and you aren't ready to move yet!? Keep us posted when you find your dog and please --a pic (pics) when you do! Love those Goldens!

Note: Don't know if you checked out my album or not but I forgot to tell you the name of my golden/cocker mix--Corky. The other dog is a pure Cocker and is called Max (Paxer) I still have him--11 yrs. old now.
