We have 3 saint bernards and a great pyrenees. I feel very safe walking them down an urban street. I would not feel safe walking a Kurdish Kangal. I like the breed too, but they are seriously too much for a person in the city. They need a TON of room to roam. They are very hard to keep fenced and penned in. I saw a video once of one pulling a tractor. They are very strong dogs. And they are very defensive. They were bred to be guard dogs. They guard the flock. A good number of them are known to be dog aggressive. Unless you do your homework and you are ready for anything this breed can throw at you, I would suggest you do like I did and pick another giant breed that is less likely to escape and pull you through the middle of traffic.
You do not have to be a strong person to walk any dog. You have to be a strong leader. Kangals are VERY independant dogs that love to wander as far as it can go. They are quite content without human companionship. That's why it's going to be hard to keep one in the city. Keeping a dog like this in the city would be a major offense to the breed. It is not very healthy to the dog to keep it pent up in the city. I can honestly tell you they are not city dogs. If you want a giant breed that you can have in the city, get a great dane, saint bernard, english mastiff. There are many gentle giants out there that will not be a threat to your life while walking them.
