Default Unanswered: Dominance problem between family dogs

Hi,
This is my first time here, so please be gentle with me;-)
I need some advice with a problem between my two dogs. Magpie is 5, and we have had her since a pup. She is a collie cross, and beautifully behaved. Daisy is a GSD about 18 months old. We have only had her since the beginning of this year, when a family member's marriage broke down, and noone wanted the pup. She had some basic training, and I have worked more with her, and on her own she is extremely well behaved, although nervy with strangers. In the home she is great, fantastic with the family and kids, and gets along fine with Magpie.
BUT out on walks, off the lead, she has begun to assert her dominance over Magpie, and is quite aggresive, grabbing at Magpie's neck constantly. Magpie tries to solve this by outrunning her, but Daisy chases her, grabbing at her in a semi - aggressive way, and has twice torn her skin, once resulting in Magpie needing stitches.
I'm not sure how to tackle this. Both dogs will come straight away if called, and walk at heel off the lead. Daisy doesn't do this when in reach of me, only when they start to run. Daisy never does this to other dogs, and is perfectly polite and sociable with them. It feels to me that she is trying to subordinate Magpie, who is quite a submissive dog anyway, but I want to nip it in the bud, because I have always felt that being a GSD in a housefull of kids that she needs to understand that she is low in the pack order. I suspect it adolescent hormones, and a bit of ' brattiness' coming into play, but I am at my wits end as to how to stop her. Unfortunately there aren't enough hours in the day to walk two energetic dogs separately!
Any ideas greatly appreciated

I can tell from the start of your post that you probably had a crappy encounter on another forum? For starts, I would give your "bratty" dog a lot less freedom. No more walkies off lead. If he can't behave off lead, I wouldn't let him off of it. Being off lead should feel like a privelige to him, not a right. And if you let him off lead and he does it, put him back on the lead for the rest of the walk. One of my dogs did that to one of the others and I bit him back with my hand right in the nose. He hasn't done it since.

Thankyou Lunareclipse.
I lurk occasionally on the horse forums, and I've seen people savaged

That sounds like a good plan. I hadn't thought of freedom as being a priviledge. (I take them out when I do the horses, so they nearly always run free around the fields as I have my hands full). I shall begin tomorrow!
Thankyou

If you need 2 hands to do your work, tie the dog's lead to your belt loops. If you need more freedom to move about, then get a 30 or 40 ft tether to tie him out with. The better he behaves, the more freedom he gets. Kinda like having teenagers. If your teeneager come in on time and doesn't wreck the car you give more privledges. If your teeneager comes in falling down drunk with bad company then it's grounding for a few weeks and loss of all priveliges.
