Default Unanswered: Tiny puppy not housebroken!

Hi! We adopted a little rat terrier/ poodle mix two weeks who is 5 months old. I've easily potty trained other dogs I've had, but this little one just isn't getting it! She refuses to go outside! I've tried I think most the tricks...putting paper towel with pee on it outside, putting her poop outside, getting one of those stakes that have the smelly stuff on it. I've tried putting down puppy pads, which she only tears up! I'll take her outside and tell her to go potty, we'll be out there for about 10 minutes and she just stares at me, then she'll come in and just pee or poop two minutes later on the floor. She is small, about 3 pounds right now, I'm wondering if that has anything to do with her not wanting to go outside. I've been told to little box train her, but i've never done that with a dog before and don't even know where to start! I know that in two weeks she wouldn't be completely housebroken anyway, but I admit that her not going potty outside AT ALL is getting frustrating. If anybody has any suggestions on something different I could try, I would be grateful!

I have a mini dachshund/rat terrier mix and she was so hard to train also! So I definitely understand your frustration. The only tips I can suggest is to be persistent and develop a routine. Make sure to take the puppy out after every meal, water drinking, nap, and play time and keep a very close eye on her. Walk outside and repeat "go potty" and if she doesn't do it in a few min, go inside so she knows its not play time. It takes so much patience and persistence but I hope that helps you and she gets better! Keep us posted
