Hi Guys
I am new to this forum so here is a little about me and the dog!
I am 28 and have a 7 year old Doberman, my problem is that despite all the walking and running i do with him everyday he just wont settle. He is hyper 24/7, after a 9mile run he is still as bonkers as when i come home from work.
He is very obedient and been to all the classes when a puppy, never shown aggression to man or other animal, i also keep him mentally stimulated with tricks and make him work for his treats EVERYDAY.
I just dont know what to do with him.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks Ant

I have one like that - nearly 8 years old but as fit and manic as she was as a pup - fortunately for me she is only 12 inches high but I can understand what you are saying :-)

I would think the first thing to look at is diet - some dogs are incredibly sensitive to colouring and flavouring and need a very natural diet. If you are feeding something high in additives you could find huge benefits in changing to a simpler food. Remember cost does not always equal quality. I'm in the UK so won't bother recommending foods but I'm sure others can.

Have you tried to find some other ways to stimulate his mind? I don't know if you have Nina Ottosson toys in the States? But they are highly recommended for active, intelligent dogs who need to use their brains to tire themselves out.

My lab can be like that too. Have you thought about doing anything like agility training or some type of class that can help focus your dog's energy? Its great you take him on those runs and walks as well as the tricks. He seems like a really intelligent, active dog. I would also look into the food as well, that can have a big impact on the dog. Good luck!
