my dog has had diarea for past 24hours havent took him the vets yet, but my boyfriend said it had blood in his poo, is this serious ??? hes still playing round fighting with my other dog going for walks ok, but he has been bit off with his food! i have tryed himon boiled rice and starving him for most the day! he hasnt done a runny poo as of yet! please help

It depends on the colour of the blood - if it is bright red it is more likely from a cut around his bum, if it is darker it could be more serious.

How long have you been feeding him rice and how long has it been since he had diarrhoea?

Viral Infections can cause Diarrhea in dogs and puppies. Parvovirus enteritis is a highly contagious, viral disease which is often fatal. Symptoms include vomiting, diarrhea, dehydration, dark or bloody feces, and in severe cases, fever and lowered white blood cell counts. See if these fits the symptoms and you should go to your vet.

Parvo is very serious and usually the diarrhea is dark in color and very very smelly, there is also Coccidia (sp?) where there is red blood and mucus in the stool, also intestinal worms can cause diarrhea as well
