Answered: Does Anyone Give Seameal to their Dog?(Made by Solid Gold Dog Food Co)
If so, I'd be interested in the way you prepare it and any comments on this product. I just started putting it in my dogs meals.
I am putting this note here because of the mention of kelp just below this post---The Best Answer-->
Of all the 19 different types of sea vegetation, only one is kelp. We use kelp for its iodine content. But kelp contains arsenic which may contribute to blindness. The other 18 types contain arsenate which bind with the arsenic and takes it out of the body. Never give kelp by itself to dogs for that reason.

I feed Kelp to my dogs, it's fantastic stuff (and a main ingredient to Seameal, I do believe)
After all the research I've done, I do believe that all dogs should be supplemented with Kelp!

Not sure I understand what you are asking Seameal is a supplement you add to your dog's food. Here is a link on it:

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

Well I am still using it --over a year now. I (not bragging or anything here!) think it is a good thing esp. if your dog needs some 'improvement' to begin with. I think it takes a while to see the results also. My dogs were fed a good diet and supplements before I started this. I was, lol, expecting them to be friskier and more alert--Sami is all that to start with but was hoping to make Max a little livelier---likes to sleep a lot and is lazy but then he is going to be 13 yrs. old in another month and he is overweight and has a slight (so far) heart condition too--BUT I think it did perk him up a little.
This is made by Solid Gold dog food so I figure they want you to pour a little warm water over the dry dog food and then sprinkle the sea meal on top so it will 'adhere' ---otherwise it would just end up in the bottom of the dog dish uneaten. It bothers me that they don't say to use barely lukewarm water as some of the the sea meal ingredients are destroyed by heat. I of course don't use any water at all as when I feed raw--it is 'wet' enough. I only have to be careful of their breakfast meal which is hot (to start with) because it is cooked oatmeal as the main ingredient--I need no water here either as this meal is wet and soft too but have to make sure it is cooled to lukewarm before sprinkling the sea meal on top.
I see I am being prompted to select a best answer----No can do as it 'doesn't apply!!'

Correction here! I should have looked at my container of Solid Gold Seameal for the directions --that I don't need to follow and so I said it wrong---QUOTE from above: This is made by Solid Gold dog food so I figure they want you to pour a little warm water over the dry dog food and then sprinkle the sea meal on top so it will 'adhere' ---otherwise it would just end up in the bottom of the dog dish uneaten. It bothers me that they don't say to use barely lukewarm water as some of the the sea meal ingredients are destroyed by heat. This is what is printed on the label: Mix with 1/4" warm water in the bottom of the food bowl. Stir to dispense evenly. So even more reason this company should have said--LUKEWARM --not warm!!
But if you do feed raw or home cooked---I would still sprinkle it on the top of cold or lukewarm food--not in bottom of dog bowl!!--or at least -- just mix in the very top layer of food.

I was just wondering.... what are the benefits to kelp? Would there be benefits for a puppy (8 months)?

Life With Big Dogs!: Kelp for Dogs
Kelp is most definitely benefitial for puppies, and all dogs. It helps with thyroid function, immune function and the digestive tract, to name a few

I am really 'messing up' with this thread! Just checked the label and there is no kelp (Wish there was!) in the seameal by Solid Gold. Here is a 'quote' from their website:
Description:
SeaMeal contains 60 trace minerals, 12 vitamins, 22 amino acids, digestive enzymes, and flaxseed meal. We recommend using SeaMeal with all our foods.
Protein, Min. 9%
Fat, Min. 4%
Fiber, Max. 13%
Moisture, Max. 12.2%
Ingredients
Dried Seaweed Meal, Flaxseed Meal, Dried Lemon, Dried Aspergillus Oryzae Fermentation Product, Dried Aspergillus Niger Fermentation Product, Pineapple, Lactose --Lol, everything else though (but the kelp and the kitchen sink!)
Technically I shouldn't have marked the best answer but it is good info given about another good ingredient--Kelp!
If anyone is interested in this product--Here is a link to the site and the page to find a store near you: Solid Gold Health Products for Pets - Store Finder This is their #1 selling product.

C/M, I'm very grateful you pointed out the temp being important.
After all the reading I've done on the benefits, it sound amazing.
Now the only question I have, to go with the 1lb or 5lb? C/m, I'd guess your two (weight wise) would make up 2/5th of my guys..how long does a lb last you?

But from the link Sara posted - it sounds like kelp and seameal help the same functions..thyroid, immune, digestive...hmmm....

Just googled and I think kelp is the same as seaweed-seameal...

Lol, this thread and I are having one he*l of a time together! If my mind was working right--I think I would of put 2 and 2 together about kelp being a seaweed--DARN!
Lange, Not sure how long it lasts me but thinking an 8 oz container lasts between a month and a half to 2 months---I give each dog a 1/2 teaspoon in the morning meal and another 1/2 teaspoon at night feeding so using a total of 2 teaspoons a day. One teaspoon is the amount for a 26 to 50 lb. dog. You would prob. want at least the 1# size but be aware if going to a very large amount container--May not be good to have it too long opened.
This is a good site that gives more info on this product---Be aware that they are trying to sell this product--but still a lot of good info there--> https://www.a1petsupply.com/secure_h...nt_seameal.htm---I want to give a couple paragraphs from this link I especially want everyone to see!--> Dogs are 11% trace minerals and only 4% vitamins. Without trace minerals, the vitamins don't work. Seameal is 60 trace minerals. It is harvested from the ocean, not from the ground. The ground is polluted, also minterals and trace minerals need to be chelated (bound with a protine ion to be better absorbed). Due to the electrical movement of the ocean, the minerals/trace minerals are naturally chelated-not bound artifically by man.
Deafdogsrule, but everyone too--especially note this info about the dangers of giving kelp by itself!!!
Why isn't SeaMeal put into our dog food? Because it contains digestive enzymes. The enzymes can't be heated over 120 degrees or they become inactive. Food is cooked at over 300 degrees.
This site gives conversions for measurements but hope you can figure it out better then me--seems to be a difference as to how many teaspoons could be in whatever product as this stuff is very lightweight--notice the flour compared to other thing --->Cup to Gram Conversions Article - Allrecipes.com-- (okay, I'm done now!)

Thanks! Good link!
I'll go with the 1lb (i only wanted to save some $ and buy the 5lb) but better safe than sorry, especially on my first order. I can't wait to start them on it.

I don't blame you for wanting to save money on the bigger 5# size--Wow, pretty big savings! Did you find a store in your area that sells it? I think I would much rather get it from a store then thru the net--This stuff is pretty 'delicate' as far as what temperatures go----I ordered some vitamins once and before I got home from work--hottest day of the year wouldn't you know----The pkg was on a steel lawn chair on my deck setting up against my vinyl sided house in the very hot full sunned south side--from about 10am till about 5 pm. Opened a bottle and stuck a thermometer in-was 90 degrees inside of it! I see in one of those links it did say it took about 20 some days before you see a difference when using it. How much do your 2 dogs weigh?

Good tip! I was going to have it shipped. I wondered if one of the petstores sold them but most things I compare are pricier at brick & mortar stores than bargain hunting online.
Together my guys weight about 110.
This was the cheapest I found; Amazon.com: Solid Gold Seameal Mineral and Vitamin Supplement for Horses, Dogs, and Cats (1 pound): Pet Supplies
ironically it's cheaper to buy from them thru amazon then thru their own website by a dollar at least.

Lol, I was afraid you were going to give the total weight of both dogs! What does each weigh separately?
This link is a store finder for your area!: Solid Gold Health Products for Pets - Store Finder
$12.01 is cheap but with $4.49 for shipping==$16.50. What that site is saying for the list price sounds a little high ($25.95). I haven't bought any since Nov. 1st (I bought 2 containers---It is vacuumed-packed so the unopened one is not 'aging') so don't know if price has changed where I get it. And I get a 10% discount---Can't remember why--because I am a senor citizen? or because I am on record there? or because I use a credit card?--so I pay about $19 to $21 for a lb. canister. It is too bad that the size 'jumps' from 1 lb to 5 lbs! A 2 lb would prob be a good size for you--or even a 3 lb.

Lol It sounded like you wanted total weight. Kuma's about 90 - Wrigley 17 or so.
According to the store finder Petco is the closest but I looked and they sell it for $24-30. There's a feed store a little further but I havent been there in awhile.
Under $17 doesn't sound to bad. The retail prices they quote on Amazon are worthless. They can post anything and most times they do!

So you would use 1/4 tsp twice a day for Wrigley-1/2 tsp total.-- Kuma would get 1 tsp twice a day---2 tsp total. So you would use 2 and 1/2 tsps a day. I use 2 tsps total a day. Not a lot of difference!!!
I wonder whether your feed store would have it if it wasn't listed in the store finder!! If you know the zip of this feed store--you could enter it in the store finder--Is it close to you? You could also call them and find out if they carry it.
Another hint: You will use a measuring spoon but be careful or you will 'waste' some as it tends to look right but if you look at it from the side--It will prob. be not level--too much. I don't use a knife or anything to level it off but I keep 'eye-balling' till I get it level. Lol, this stuff is not cheap and if you over gave even a little bit---when you consider doing it 4 times in one day--It does really add up!!

The feed store was listed as one of the stores that do sell the seameal. I may call tomorrow to check their price.
I;m surprised the amount's will be so similiar between us. Good for me on that When we only had Wrigley everything seemed to last forever. With Kuma things changed. I really have to prepare if we're going to ever add a 3rd dog.
