Unanswered: my dog will not toilet anywhere other than the garden
i have a 16 week old king charles spanial he is house trained but he will not toilet outside his own garden, this proves very difficult when we take him out for the day eg yesterday he went 13hrs without toileting although he was taken outside at every opportunity, he has constent access to drinking water which he drinks often so its not like fluids are not going in, as soon as he comes home he goes straight to the back door to be let out were he then does his jobs. i want my dog to be active part of our family but how am i ment to include him unless he toilets beyond our garden.
can any one please suggest something

Welcome to the forum!
If nothing else---Let him in his own garden to do his duties before taking him on walks, etc--But only do that as a last resort--(If you are giving up!) This may sound messy, etc. but maybe pick up his poo and take it in a spot you would like him to go outside his garden. (Lol, prob. not funny to you but your dog sounds like he is very clean and neat about all this!) If you take him on walks and you see another dog peeing/'marking' a spot--immediately take him there (after the other dog is done of course! If he finally does go somewhere other than his garden--Praise him like crazy--like he had done just the best thing in the world--And give him a treat---A special favorite treat. In fact, Save this treat only for when he goes where you want him to. Does he know what the words 'Go potty' mean? If you try these methods--Don't do the first sentence above--If you can keep track of how long he usually goes poo after eating--That would be a good time to take him for a walk where other dogs have pottied and or also take some of his poo with you--I would say the pee too but, lol, kind of hard to do!

I agree with Corky, those are all great suggestions. Generally my dogs love to go in spots where other dogs have to "mark" their territory. So on walks, they do a lot of their business. I would suggest taking your dog on walks when he has to do his.

Hi. Hopefully someone will have gone through this & have an answer. I haven't gone through this but brain storming..I would start getting your dog to associate a certain scent with potting. Maybe you can buy a spray of something soft & natural yet not too unpleasant to yourself either. Then you can occasionally spray some on the grass in his garden area. Hopefully he will start associating the scent with potty which you can then spray when you're away to make him more comfortable. Just an idea...
(slow to post..You got suggestions )

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"
