I have had Elmer for 2 years now and I have an idea of what kind of dog he is but i was wondering has anyone seen a dog like him or do you know what kind of dog he might be? Anything ideas or suggestions are welcome

Well the ticking in the coat suggests something like Dalmatian or English Setter in there but he is smaller than either of them and the face is smaller, snout and floppy ears. The shape almost looks like could be a beagle cross but I would suspect he would probably have brown in him if that was the case although who knows really... in the third picture I almost thought it looks like a chihuahua face but that might be a stretch!

Smile Welcome to the forum!

My 1st (and only!) guess is mostly Dalmation!

He is definitely Dal mix. The head and ears are actually Dal's. My grandparents had them when I was a kid and my older sister worked Dalmation rescue and head, muzzle and ears look just like the ones I have seen. The tail though is off, appears to have a fringe on it which Dal's do not produce.

Dal mix... possibly with a spaniel? Whatever he is he is absolutely adorable!

Default Hey---Is it some little one's BIRTHday today (Yet!)--

Was just checking out your profile page--See you are due today with your 1st baby! Being the 1st one though--will prob. be up to a week late! Anyway--Hope to hear the good news when it does happen! My mother's birthday is tomorrow--Valentine' Day --also my grandson's too.

Reason I was checking out your profile page---Wanted to pass along some info about Dalmatians---Not the best info but important to be aware of so you can do the best you can by your Elmer! And maybe whatever other mix is in there might 'counteract' it some. Dalmatians have problems with skin allergies and urinary bladder stones. They are also prone to deafness. (Those are quotes from a breeds book I have.) This is from the June 2010 issue of The Whole Dog Journal---This breed carries a genetic mutation that predisposes them to the formation of life-threatening urinary bladder stones. (Same as what is in my Breeds Book--mentioned above) It is not unusual for Dalmatians to need several surgeries to remove stones during their lifetimes. Low purine diets are best. Me talking here: Being aware of these possibilities--esp. the bladder stone issue which was also mentioned that it can be so severe that the dog may have to be put down. Sorry to be giving you all this 'bad news'---I just want to make sure you have the info so you can do your best to try and prevent this. If it were me, I'd be finding out all I could on this subject---To keep an upper hand on it all!

I thought I might have done a post on bladder stones in here--a few links to click on for more info:
Treatment and Prevention of Kidney and Bladder Stones I am not sure if you can get into those links so here are good ones off the web: Uric Acid Stones in Dalmatians

Feeding Your Dog

http://www.gopetsamerica.com/dog-hea...er-stones.aspx

There are many more sites on this subject--Just put--> Dalmatians bladder stones--in your browser. Might try things too as dogs purine diet and/or dogs struvite stones

Also if you ever think about home made diets--Here is a thread that would be good to read---GOOD TO READ WHATEVER YOU FEED---> Foods that are hazardous to a dog
