Default Unanswered: Where to keep new 2nd dog's crate

Hello everyone!

We are bringing home a rescue dog to keep for the weekend. If all works out with him and my current dog, we will be keeping him. This is our first time bringing in a 2nd dog, and I'm not sure where to keep the new guy's crate. It is very large and can't be easily moved, so it has to stay put once I decide on a spot. I can either keep it in my kitchen or in my daughter's bedroom or ours.

If we keep it downstairs in the kitchen, he will have access to it whenever he gets tired or stressed. However, he will have to sleep in it at night by himself while everyone else, including our current dog sleeps upstairs. I really don't like him being locked up and far away where I wouldn't be able to here him if something happened. He would also be locked up in the area where my current dog has free reign whenever we left the house. Not sure if that would cause issues between them.

Leaving it upstairs would allow him to sleep with some of the pack. It would also give him his own area when we went out. However, he would not have free access to the upstairs during the day. My current dog only recently obtained this.

I'm not exactly sure which of these scenerios is best. I just want to make sure I get these two started off well!

Hmm that is a tough decision. I would probably say kitchen so he is not locked up in a room all day. But then again, it may be tough for him to see the other dog walking around freely. However, you won't know how the rescue dog is going to react until you do it so you may have to just make adjustments as you go based on what works best for the dog and you as well. Good luck with the rescue! I hope it all works out for the best.
