Default Unanswered: Behavior after neuter surgery

My shih tzu had surgery yeterday, brought him home last night. He's doing this strange walk/sit thing. Walks a few steps, then sits and starts licking incision, walks, licks. He also hasn't peed since I brought him home. He's drinking and eating fine, but hasn't peed yet. When I take him outside, he just sits down and looks at me. Anyone know if this is normal?

If he doesn't go soon, I will call the vet. Just wondering if I'm worrying too much.

Keep an eye on him in case he doesn't pee tomorrow. It's fairly normal for that kind of behavior. Any animal or human isn't going to want to go pee after getting surgery in that area. It hurts. Give him some time and call a vet if you think it's been too much time.

Also try and be sure not to let him lick at the incision as it can cause it to get infected. If you hhave a problem getting him to stop you may have to ask the vet for what's called an e-collar.

You can also buy a ecollar at the pet store for cheaper than the vet.

Very true Luna...I know you can get one of the small breed collars at Petsmart for about $5.00.

Thanks! It does make sense that he wouldn't want to go. I wish he felt the same way about jumping as he does walking and peeing right now! Doing my best to watch him, but he's managed to jump on and off the couch a couple of times. He has NO hesitation with that.

He's definitely a licker so I'll be heading to the store to get an e-collar so I'm not paranoid when I have to leave him alone tomorrow for a couple of hours. Thanks for the tip about Pet Smart! That's closer to me anyway.
