Red face Unanswered: Help needed Socializing a male 9mth old cocker spaniel

Hello, my name is Krista, and I am owned by a male Black tuxedo Cocker Spaniel named Levi. I need some helpful hints on how to socialize him to other dogs. He was a stray I adopted, and he has warmed up greatly to my Kitten, but not my other dogs. My husband and I are coowned by 4 very playful and loving pitbulls, and we want Levi to be able to get along with other animals at the dog park, and when we go places. He is also hesitant around new people. We are progressing well with the people socializing, but not with the other animal thing.

We have tried to introduce him very slowly to them, by walking them with in site of each other, and also getting closer and closer but he still seems to turn snappy toward them. I am afraid to let him loose in the play yard together. We have only had him for 2 weeks, and He has been recently neutered a week ago.

Please Help!! He is forever ours, but we want him to love the whole family!

Krista,

Congrats on the new addition to your family! I don't know how you handle all those dogs! Kudos to you. But I definitely think that Levi will get better with more time and work. Maybe because he was just neutered he is feeling a little more cautious and sensitive than normal. I would imagine as he heals further and returns to normal, he should get less snappy. Do you feed all the dogs together and walk them together? Those activities can help bond the dogs and hopefully help Levi relax more. Is he snappy with your dogs as well? Or just other dogs he sees out?
