Unanswered: Identify Axel
I got little Axel in November from an animal shelter...I was told he was a hound...but I wanna know exactly what type. Any ideas?

He sure has a small head for a large dog. makes me wonder if he had parents of two extremely different sizes. As for what type of Hound, I have no idea. But he is cute. Have you thought of DNA testing?

It might just be that picture. But yeah, his body is little big for his head. Haha. I have not thought about DNA testing...but it might come to that. It would all depend on pricing for it.

I can't see any particular breed in him except perhaps Rhodesian Ridgeback. He could have so many breeds in his makeup you may never be able to separate them and know for certain.

Well if you do do the DNA testing, don't do the Saliva kits. Go to your vet and ask about the blood kits.
I would just call him an American Mix. LOL. Cutie though.

I would say the eyes look like weimeriner eye, and the body structure looks like possibly lab & pitty
My advice to you is dont get the dna test. They are only concluive if the dog has pure bred parents. If mixed dogs got together and made your dog, it will literlly list the parents as "mixed breeds". They are incredibly accurate if the parents are pure breeds, or at least half and half, any more mixed thn that, they cant tell. We did it for our 2 dogs. One came back 3/4 chihuhua and 1/4 golden retriever. One grandmother was golden retriever. We definately see it in her too, so we were happy with that result. But the other dogs results were so invonclusive because she was so heavily mixed, the only 2 breeds they could tell us were tht she "may or may not have dauchund and american hairless"
