Default Unanswered: Sudden dog aggression

I have a 1 yr old brittany. I got her when she was 10 weeks old. I had a brittany for 11 yrs who passed from cancer. My other dog who is 1o 1/2 suddenly started attacking her for what apperas to be no reason. My brittany is very submissive she drops and rolls on her back for about everyone except the cats. Not sure why my older dog is doing this they have always gotten along great until the past few days. even then they seem fine and then my older dog will just turn on her. Any Ideas?

Default Welcome to the forum!

No expert on this subject but some food for thought! I wonder that your puppy has changed into an adult and that may be upsetting to your other dog --even though she is a female. Also how long ago did you lose the other Brittany?

What breed is your other dog? Is this dog a male or female? Being 10 and a half years old means a senior and maybe he/she is not feeling the best---Old age/arthritis? How long ago has it been since this senior had a wellness exam? Is your 1 yr. old too much for your older dog to deal with? Take note of what is going on just before the older dog attacks---Is your younger dog trying to be playful with the older dog and the older dog just wants to be left alone? It might be a good idea to have a vet visit to rule out any physical problems.

And please read this thread on Rimadyl in case your vet wants to prescribe it:
Please Do not Give Rimadyl (carprofen)--CAN KILL

Will also give you other threads done in this forum on the same kind of issue. Docile German Shepherd turned aggressive

Arthritis/Back Pain--Good info about the Drugs For, etc.

Distressed 10 year old dog Take the mention of the rimadyl links in all these threads as a big precaution---Sorry about all the repeats but do note the different replies of advice!

I found this great thread done a couple of years ago in here! I hope anyone reading this will check it out if you have an older dog or one with arthritis!!!---> Miracle Treatment For Dogs With Arthritis

No thats the thing both times the pup was not around her. She was with me in another room and my older dog just came charging in and attacked her. the other time the older dog was laying down and the pups back was to her she was looking out the patio door and my older dog flews up behind her and started in. they are both spayed females. the older dog is an Aust Shep/Springer mix. The other Brit passed away a year ago I got the pup 2 weeks later. The pup does not try tpo play with her much, she used to try buy has not for quite some time. Thank You so much...

Your aggressive dog is 1 1/2 or 10 1/2?....If she's sick she can become aggressive. Talk to your vet & tell them what has been happening. That is always the first step in situations like these unless there was a real trigger involved but when it comes out of nowhere I would suspect illness or physical imbalance somewhere which only a vet can diagnose.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"
