Unhappy Unanswered: New dog aggressive to member of family

Hi, Can anyone give me some advice please, I got my dog a week ago from a family who couldn't look after him any more due to ill health. All was fine for first few days then suddenly, he started growling at my 24 year old Daughter when she said hello to him! He is a border collie aged 5 years, with apparently no aggression issues. He is fine with me and my Husband and friends. Please can someone help, as she is scared to go near the dog now, Thankyou.

Hi. What do you and your husband do when the dogs growls at your daughter? What does your daughter do? What kind of ground rules did you establish when you brought your dog into your home? A dog is usually better behaved in a new environment as soon as it get's there because it's measuring everything up but once it gets more comfortable it will start showing more of it's real personality. I think dogs, especially adults dogs should have a strong foundation in ground work (very nilf like) & house rules when coming into a new home to diminish as many behavioral problems as possible.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

nice to hear that its not just men that dogs can take a disliking to lol
i personally would take the dog out of the room before your duaghter comes in and takes a seat .

give your daughter some treats and then introduce the dog into the room
depending on the bravery of your daughter u may want to keep him/her leashed . try to ignore the fact that there in the same room together as any tension will only make matters worse . have your daughter throw a small amount of boiled chicken or any treat the dog loves on the floor near to her and then totaly ignore the dog as it approaches and eats build up untill the dog eventualy eats out of your daughters hand . when and if this happens have your daughter praise the dog and reward with another treat from the hand .if your daughter is freitend to the point that she will run from the dog at the slightest twitch ide suggest getting proffesional help as this method will not work . its a two way street the dog and your daughter both need to trust that the other does not mean them any harm

this is only my oppinion and if you have any doubt please find a professional
also sorry about the standard of grammar and spelling lol

I think you should take professional advice as your dog is behaving well with everyone but not with your daughter.
