Default Unanswered: Teething!!! Help!

Hello,
My dog is 5 months old now and has begun teething...it seems like he doesn't like me anymore, he pulls away when I try to pet his head, he becomes aggressive when he's chewing on things (rug/coffee table) and bites at me sometimes tearing at my shirt or shorts and growling. He never was like that before he began teething and loosing teeth, is this normal or am I doing something wrong to cause this change in behavior??? Also, he used to chew his Nylabone all the time, now he won't touch it, could this be because his mouth hurts or missing teeth??? I can see he's in pain, and I just want to help him, but it's frustrating when he's biting at me or shying away from me...

Any help would be appreciated...Thanks!

Have you taken your dog in to the vet so that they can check him? If he's in that much pain I would take him in asap! Pain can cause a dog to act out.

If the vet finds nothing wrong with his teeth I would get serious with some training. If this is purely behavioral related you want to nip his behavior in the bud now because at 5 months it's only the beginning. Teach your dog how you want it to behave and what it should do instead when it does something wrong.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"
