Unhappy Unanswered: Losing my mind on potty training! Please help!

Me and my boyfriend own a beautiful purebred Pembroke Welsh Corgi. She is now 6 months old and we've had her since she was about 12 weeks old. We're currently losing our minds when it comes to potty training her though! She lives with my boyfriend and we'll bring her outside to go to the bathroom but she won't go. But when she comes inside she'll go on the carpet 30 seconds later. She uses the whole house as her bathroom. However at my house we have the exact same set up as my boyfriend's but she won't go to the bathroom in the house. Even if we don't take her out right away she never goes to the bathroom, she goes fine outside. Even worse is there were a few weeks where she seemed to get it and was going well, but she suddenly just started going whenever she wanted at my boyfriends again. At my house she'll signal us by jumping over us and standing near the door. At my boyfriend's she doesn't even signal us, and will go on furniture or beds. We treat and train her the exact same way and I don't understand why she keeps doing this! Me, my boyfriend, and my boyfriend's mother are all quickly losing patience. It's gotten so bad we lose sleep over worrying about it and his mother refuses to have anything to do with her. We love her and we don't want to have to sell her or something but we can't afford a trainer and I'm completely clueless as to what to do now. Please help!

I think you need to go back to basics - treat her like a new puppy. You need to take her outside every hour, after every meal, every time she wakes from a nap, every time you finish playing. When she is in your boyfriend's house either she needs to be supervised or she needs to be confined to an easy to clean area while there is no one to watch her. Freedom is something that has to be earned and until she proves that she is reliable she should not have the freedom to wander round the house.

I'm with Cig. I'd only add crate training instead of room confinement since it helps speed things up.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

I agree with cig as well, definitely go back to the basics and don't give her a chance to go in the house.

Default crate

definitely try a crate when she is at your boyfriend's house- dogs hate to pee where they lay or by their food. as soon as you let her out of the crate hurry her outside and give her a treat when she potties. hang in there!
