Default Unanswered: Hind leg ligament injury

Hiya, We have a four-year old Staffordshire Bull Terrier called Reggie and he is our baby. He's been limping on his back leg for a while and had some x-rays today. The vet said it looked as though he had ligament damage to his knee and that after the x-rays had been checked again at the lab that he will probably need a camera to go in and look or an MRI scan to be followed by surgery. I've been reading up on recovery time and it says anything from six weeks to three months. My concern is that we live in an apartment and I have to take Reggie outside to pee and poo. Will he be OK to walk to do his business. He has never been to the toilet indoors - he is a very clean boy. I'm not sure what we can do - any ideas - anyone been through this?
Thanks.
Jackie

Hi,

The answer to your question is very much dependant on the extent of the injury , if its a full blown rupture then reggie will need help for a few weeks, however if its a tear then this may be treated without surgery.

Only the scans / x-rays will tell that.

Not sure where you live but we have a very good vet physio near us ( south west scotland ) who has worked wonders.

Try and find one near you and seek further advice even if its only an informal chat at the start i'm sure they will help.

Regards

Steve
