Hi there, my wife and I are ready to return to the UK from Canada after being here for a year. We have a two year old black lab called Rocky who flew out with us for the experience and loved every minute!
We are now ready to fly Rocky back but may have hit a stumbling block with his Rabies Vaccine expiry date. Any help on what I am about to ask would be greatly appreciated as we are returning to the UK in the next couple of weeks...hopefully!
We got Rocky vaccinated as a puppy in the UK with Procyon Nobivac which states on his pet passport is valid for three years and his next vaccine is not due until 2012...simple so far! We have all the correct paperwork for this.
We waited for six months then flew to Canada with him. No problems what so ever.
Now on planning our return home I geve this information to the Pet Travel Company in Canada they have told us there might be a problem with it. They have said because Rocky was vaccinated as a puppy that he should have been given a booster after one year and so now his rabies vaccine is out of date!!
Our vet in the UK never told us this and I have never read this anywhere else. If it is true though then we will have to stay in Canada for a further six months until his new vaccine has taken. Not a problem in itself but everything is booked for us to return.
I am going to try and get hold of DEFRA to confirm what the current policy is asap. I was just wondering if anyone else has been in this situation and could offer me some advice and help me reduce my already high stress levels
Thanks Col
