Unanswered: SEVERE puppy agression towards his brother! HELP!
I have 2 3 month old mix puppies. They are suppposedly rottwieler, swiss mountain dog, a sharpee. They have been the best of friends until friday night. The larger one (jack) has starting attacking the smaller one (mack.) It is very severe, I can't even leave them alone together in fear of finding one dead when I come back. I have 2 older basset hounds (both fixed), one male, one female and there is no problem with agression towards them. I am really hoping that it has something to do with needing to be nuetered. However, I can't get that procedure until they are 4 to 6 months. I don't know what to do! This agression seems really strange for such a young dog. All of my dogs are exersized, loved and cared for, so I know it can't be from lack of attention. This has just come out of no where! Can anybody give my any insight? Is it possible to get them nuetered a little early? Can dogs physical age develop faster than thier actual age? Totally lost here....

It can be possible to neuter early but with a larger breed it is better to wait until they are a fair bit older. As an experienced owner I'm sure you are well aware of the differences between play fighting and actual fighting. It might be good to talk to your vet but if there is true aggression between them at this age it may well be that your only option is to rehome one of them.

My dad bred basset hounds when we were kids but I'm not sure why Jack is attacking only Mack and no others dogs. If he's trying to be dominant wouldn't he be the same to all of them? Here's something I hope helps

I had a female shorty jack and an elderly border collie x. I took in a male shorty jack puppy at the request of my breeder. She wanted to use him as a breeding dog. By the time he was 5 months old, he was going after every bloody dog in the park. The final straw was when he attacked my 14 year old border collie x and did $300 worth of damage to her face. As much as I loved him, I had to rehome him both for the safety of my elderly dog and my neighbours dogs. If you can't find a way to make them get along, rehome one of them before you have a situation like I had.

That's terrible Lara's mom. Hope everything worked out OK, as much as it can when you have to rehome a pet. I thank my lucky stars I've never had to go there

This isn't a neutering issue...His hormones haven't kicked in yet with him only being 3 months old..I hesitate to offer you any suggestions without knowing more about the initial attack...What were they both doing when the attack took place? Where were they?..Who was around?..Was there food or a favorite toy nearby?..Also where and what were the Basset Hounds doing when the attack took place?...How often is it happening and do you see any pattern forming?
Sorry, I know it's a lot of questions but knowing the answers might make it easier to give some suggestions.
