My Lhasa is terrified of thunderstorms and shakes really bad. She also hides in the tub or the bed when it storms. Otherwise she is a normal, well-behaved, LOVING & kissy little girl. I got her a Thundershirt but it didn't work for her. I've had her almost two years now and for about the past couple of months, she spends maybe 75% of her time laying (hiding?) behind the the sofa. The other 25% she will play normally with my other two dogs and she doesn't seem to have problems eating when its mealtime.
I am concerned that maybe she needs meds to "stabilize" her moods and calm her anxiety during storms.
Anyone have a similar situation? How did u handle it? ANY comments are welcomed!
Thanks for the link! I checked it out and will try those tips they list. I really like the one about playing with the dog during the storm to distract and even descenitize her from the storms and even associate the thunder sounds with something positive.
Yeah my Labs are both headed straight under the bed at the first crack of thunder, but it seems like they then remember that thunder means game time and they're all over me lol.
Thundershirts gentle, constant pressure has a dramatic calming effect for most dogs when anxious, fearful, or over excited. Drug- free. Completely safe. Comfortable for dog. Has already helped tens of thousands of dogs.
I have before and after videos on my website and you can also buy it from me.
