Default Answered: Healthy food for Labs?

My Missy (3yo Yellow Lab) is becoming a fat little piggy, she gets exercise but I think the canned stuff I give her with her dry stuff and leftovers is no good. (Some of those leftovers wouldn't be much good either lol)

What should I be feeding her?

Yes it is mind boggling as to how many things are dangerous to give a dog/cat. I just posted some more things that an animal poison hotline has put in a site---Very good info to see/hear--5 videos to watch, etc. This is the link to this post I just did and then you can click on the link in that post.

As long as people have different opinions there will always be a debate on this, but raw food is a great diet. Stay away from any kibble with grain (corn, wheat) in it. Those are just fillers and they don't have a whole lot of nutritional value to dogs. Grains actually cause an allergic reaction in some dogs. Grain can also make them gain some unwanted weight. Your pooch might be getting exercise but it might not be getting enough exercise.

Also, do not free feed your pooch have 2 set meal times a day. Labs are a breed that is famous for overeating and getting obese. Keep snacks to a minimum. Feed your pooch healthy snacks. Mine love broccoli and carrots. Cut snacks into TINY pieces so the dog thinks he's getting more than he actually is. No leftovers. If your pooch wasn't already overweight, it wouldn't be a problem, but right now it is part of the problem. 1 hour walks in the morning and evening help or 1 hour walk in the morning and a trip to the dog park in the evening.

Thank you Maybe if I ban her from the dining room at mealtimes that will help? She's always hanging out under the table when we're eating...it's so hard not to slip her a couple of bits and pieces lol

[B][COLOR="SeaGreen"]Maybe you won't be feeding scraps from the table anymore but just in case----This is a link to a thread in here that tells you what is bad for your dog to 'put in his mouth' or 'get into!' A lot there to read but very important to know!

Foods that are hazardous to a dog

Wow, I would never give a dog alcohol or coffee but I had no idea there would be a problem with avocado or macadamia nuts. (Don't think I've ever given them these though phew)

Somebody better tell this cute little guy though...youtube.com/watch?v=U4rPx-3VlVA
