Default Unanswered: My Overly Excited Greeter

Hi, I have a very smart and good dog (for the most part), but it seems like she has some Abandonment issues. Every time I leave the house for awhile she seems overly excited to see me. She jumps up and on me as if I was gone for years. How can I correct this problem?
Thanks...

That doesn't mean she has abandonment issues...It's a pretty common behavior until the dog is taught the behavior is not exceptable. To start with whenever she jumps on you turn your back to her and tell her off..You also do not want to give her any attention when she is overly excited...When you come in the door you should avoid eye contact with her,do not pet her or give her any verbal or physical attention until she has calmed down..If she knows the sit/stay command ask her to do that and then reward her with a treat..The more attention you give her even if it's negative attention when she's excited the more she will continue with that behavior.

I agree. And also carry a squirt bottle with you and squirt the pooch in the nose with it. Dogs hate being squirted in the nose.

I have the same problem with my puppy... he has major separation anxiety... I can leave him with someone he knows since I socialized him with all my neighbors friends and family, but if I try to leave him alone he will yipe and scream for what seems like forever.... I left one day ( live in an apartment) and went upstairs 3 floors up and sat on the outside steps for over and hour and a half just to see how long he would continue to cry and scream and he didnt stop till I came back in... and I can be gone for only a few mins to take out the trash or grab the mail and when I come back he will jump, and yipe like crazy... in fact I went to my mothers the one day and left him in the house with her and was only moving the car to make room for my dads car when he would get back from work... he was fine until I got in the car then began to yipe whine scream and cry till I came back into the house... makes me feel so bad but then again leaves me little time to myself except the times when I can get a neighbor to take him while I run errands since he knows them

I think that's pretty common for most dogs/puppies. I like it when my Harvey gets all excited to see me.

I don't mind my dogs being excited to see me, but all 4 feet better stay on the floor. I can't have my doggies knocking me down.
