Hello everyone,

I have a 3 month-old male Husky puppy who acts very strange around one particular dog at my apartment. He is absolutely fine around all of the other dogs that he meets (calm and submissive playfulness).

However, when he sees or even just smells this one particular dog, he becomes extremely excited. He barks and lunges towards the dog whenever they get close. If allowed to interact, all my puppy does is bark obsessively and try to jump all over this dog (in a non-aggressive, but overly-excited manner). When the other dog leaves, or when I start pulling him away from the other dog, my puppy goes crazy and starts whining and howling very loudly. For a while after the other dog is gone, my puppy will refuse to do anything except track down and follow this other dog's scent. For a while, I thought maybe the other dog was a female in heat, but it turns out that he is a boy...

I want to stress that this is completely abnormal behavior for my puppy. He seems to only act this way around this one dog. Does anyone have any idea why my puppy is doing this?

I haven't a clue, but is there any way you can arrange for them to play together for a while? It might curb his obsession a little if he finds out it's just an ordinary dog after all.

Thanks for the input, but the other owners don't seem very interested in letting them play. Also, the other dog gets a little freaked out by my puppy's odd behavior.

I'm sorry the other owner is an asswhole. I can imagine the other dog's reaction though.

I don't think the other owner is necessarily "an I LOVE DOGS!I LOVE DOGS!I LOVE DOGS!I LOVE DOGS!I LOVE DOGS!I LOVE DOGS!I LOVE DOGS!." It could be that the person is afraid that their dog may snap at the puppy and they just want to avoid a potential problem.
