Default Unanswered: Dog gets a horrible smell but it doesn't always smell

I know all dogs will/prolly get a lil dog smell. That's not what I'm referring to. My Morkie that's about 6 months old gets a horrible smell. I'm not sure why. Same day I bath him he'll smell. Having him groomed has helped for about 3 weeks if that long then the smell is back. The thing that has me dumbfounded is the smell goes away for small amounts of time. Being outside seems to really help bring out the smell. I was starting to wonder if it was sweat but I looked that up and dogs sweat thru their paws or panting so idk...
Any advice please?
Thanks

Are your dogs ear erect? If not, do you clean them? a lot of dogs with dropped ears get ear infections because their ears can't air out naturally.

Anal glands? usually when you get a full groom service they'll express their glands which would take care of the odor until it needs it again. Some dogs scoot their booties on the floor or bite at it when it's bothering them.

The other thing I can think of is allergies. If your dog has allergies it can be affecting their skin and causing it to get smelly. Does your dog scratch? When dogs with allergies get bathed in good shampoo's it can help relieve some of those things which could be a reason you don't smell it for awhile after grooming. But if it is allergy related, you'll want to try to figure out what the culprit is to limit or stop exposure to it.

ANd with all that said, you should look into going to the vet. If it's anal glands they can let you know and show you how to express them correctly. If it's ear infections they can also let you know and give you medication. (if it is ear infections come back and let me know and I can recommend a good ear cleanser that is my go to & never fails). Finally, if it's allergies your vet may be able to help and prescribe med's if there's a secondary infection.

Hope that helps!

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

That's just what I was going to say...May sure the groomers are expressing the anal glands and if nothing is coming out it may be because they're impacted and the vet will have to take care of that!

Default Thanks for the replies

He does have floppy ears so I will reply again if it is something to do with that.

I will check with his Groomer about the anal gland to see if she what she can tell me then I will take him to see his vet.

He really doesn't itch much so I am guessing that's not it but I'll soon find out.

Thanks again
