Unanswered: husky pup (6months old) keeps using carpets as toilet.
Hey,
this is my first post on this forum.
My husky pup is 6 months, and keeps going to the toilet on my downstairs carpets, even after she has been let out to go to the toilet, which I take her out to do every few hours or when she shows she needs out, but will still go to the toilet when she comes back in.
I have tried using vanilla extract on the carpets to mask her scent but it didnt work.
My carpets are ruined as I have been cleaning them daily with carpet cleaners.she does it worse after I have cleaned them.
my partner thinks it is a way of showing her dominance over me, but Im the dominant in everything else, and she does listen to me when i tell her commands. She just refuses to stop using the carpets as her toilet.
I dont want to have to let her be an outside dog but im running out of options and ideas to make her stop.
Is there any reason why she is doing this?
any answers will be welcome.
Thankyou

This has absolutely nothing to do with dominance..She's simply not housebroken...For starters you cannot mask the scent..She can smell right through anything you put over it..You have to use an enzyme cleaner specially made for pet stains..If you don't get the scent out she will continue going in the same spot..
Is there any way you can block her off from that area?..also I would consider crate training her..It's one of the most effective ways to housebreak a dog..Another thing you can do is to control her water intake..Put down a bowl of water for her about every 2 hr.s and make sure you take her outside within 15 minutes of drinking and don't bring her in until she pees..If she's peeing on the carpet right after she's peed outside then she hasn't completely finished..You can either keep her outside longer or take her out to pee, bring her back in and then take her right back out a few minutes depending on how quickly after she was outside she pees on the carpet..you can also put her leash on and keep her attached to you so she can't sneak off on her own.

You're very welcome...I would like to suggest though that even if she has a kennel run it would be much better for her if when you're gone you get her a crate for inside of the house..It's really not safe for her to be outside alone if no one is home especially being she's a puppy..you would have to make sure she had protection from the weather and I would be afraid of someone stealing her..Not to mention she would probably feel much safer inside the house..As long as your not gone hours on end she would be much better off crated inside ..This will also aid in her housebreaking since dogs don't like to use the bathroom where they have to sleep.

You might want to try cleaning the area she's peed on with white vinegar. It removes the urine smell. A lot of commercial cleansers smell like urine to a dog. If there is one specific part of your carpet that she seems to favour, clean it well and place her food and water bowl there. Dogs are clean animals and don't like to "foul" where they eat or sleep.

Huskey using carpet for toilet
When your take your puppy out to toilet, it is not play time. I've had some pups that will pee as soon as you put them outside, another sniffed around and mucked around for 20 minutes before peeing. You just have to wait until it is done before allowing your pup back inside.
The white vinegar is fantastic, as already said.
Another hint is to burn some lavender oil in an oil burner, helps to stop peeing in the house.

Try crate training. Put her in her kennel,(place the kennel in her favorite spot to "go" because dogs typically wont potty where they sleep.) and let her out to go to the bathroom. Give her some time, if she doesnt go outside, put her right back into the kennel, and try again later. If she goes potty outside let her out of the kennel, then take her potty again every few hours and repeate the process. This is how I have potty trained all my dogs, it takes a little while, but its better then rubbing her nose in it or any of the other ways to train. She is a larger breed tho, and they seem to potty train faster.
