Default Unanswered: parvo, please help

My akita of nine months has been fully vaccinated. Sunday morning we noticed something was wrong, he wasn't happy to see us, he was sleepy, wouldn't eat or drink, he was vomiting green and his diarrhea was water. He looked very sad. We thought maybe he ate something or just had a bad belly. But Mon morning he was getting worse. We booked an appointment with the vet and they recommended he be referred somewhere better. We had a phonecall that night and found out it was parvo. I'm devastated. They put him on iv fluids and anti sickness tablets, tues morn we went down to see him, he looked slightly better but was sick saliva in tha car and had diarrhea. They kept him in again and the same for Wednesday. He started looking brighter, his tail was up and when the vet took him outside for a small walk he barked at two men. Seems more like him. He stared drinking water but culdnt keep it down. Today he seems to be getting worse! He's being sick again and a lot. Is this due to them trying to feed him and give him water? They gave his a sedative for an xray, now he's has diarrhea. And a lot of it. He hasn't vomited much since tues or had diarrhea atall! But now he has. The vet said he still looked bright and is well hydrated. Can someone give me advice does anyone think maybe he's improving? He isnt so depressed anymore. I'm worried please help.

With non of us being vets and having never seen your dog before he got sick or after there's no way any of us could tell..Only his vet would know that...Have you contacted his breeder to inform him/her walks going on?

Ok I know that none of you are vets but I'm asking people who's dogs have suffered parvo and what happened with them and if they know anything from it. I dont get how your comment spay and neuter has anything to do with him getting parvo. He has been vaccinated! But thanks for help anyway

UMMM...for the record the Spay/Neuter is not a cooment towards you or anyone else...It happens to be part of my signature!!

I don't know if any of the members have had dogs with Parvo but from what we know it is curable if they can catch it and treat it early enough..Does the vet have any idea how you're fur kid picked it up?..Usually by 9 mths they've had all of the required shots and are pretty safe from contracting it..Also have you notified the breeder?...She/he should be informed because Parvo can live in the ground for years if the area isn't treated.

Ok well it wasn't obvious and I didn't appreciate your tone there, I am worrying about losing my dog all I ask is for some sort of help/advice. No he picked it up around here whichvos miles away from where he was born, picked it up from feces. he had all his required vaccinations when he was little but doesn't guarantee 100 percent and he still caught it. he showed signs Sunday was admitted to animal hospital Mon night. I hope that it was caught early the vet never said.

Sounds like you acted as quickly as you possibly could. From the bit of reading I've done (and I'm by no means any sort of expert), the majority of fatalities occur in the very young, the very old and in cases that have been left untreated for a considerable time. None of those applies to you.

Parvo is a nasty disease but, you caught it early and your dog is otherwise healthy. I think you have every reason to have a lot of hope that your fur kid will pull through.

Honestly, and you probably won't like my tone either then, but if my 9 month old pup was that sick with Parvo, I would be directing all my questions to the vets.
I understand your fear, as this is your baby, it can be a terrifing ordeal, when they aren't right. And that you are looking for someone here who has gone through the same thing, right?
But, again, ask your vet, and/or call other vets and get their opinion.
Maybe time is of the essence!!

We really do hope for the best.

Thankyou for all of your help! The vet doesn't really give much information. Even when asked. All they said was his blood was fine, his xray is fine, he's hydrate. Can't keep food or water down. He vomited a lot to day which they said concerned them and had diarrhea. Which he hasn't had since tues only vomit. Bitching they did say he does seem brighter in himself when he went out his tail was up, peed on the wall, barked at two men yest, seems more active etc..however he has slept a lot today. But not sure if that normal or not cos he loves his sleep anyway. Just seems like yest all they said was he's fine as soon as he eats drinks + keeps it down he can come home, now today he's vomiting and pooing and its concerning me 2. Just want my little baby 2 beat this so he can come home to be spoilt.

Didn't mean to write bitching there, predictive text is useless

Depending on how long he had it before symptoms showed it may take a few weeks for him to get back to himself..It really does sap all the strength right out of them!

Oh and again...Have you let the breeder know your puppy has Parvo..The whole litter needs to be tested for it!

They still need to be told because the rest of the litter could be infected.

Trust that they will look after him right.

While he's there, maybe you could research Parvo. Learn all you can about it.
That way when he comes home you will be more at ease to deal with it. And your little guy won't pick up on your fear.

Wishing you all the best.
BTW, whats his name? I just like using the dogs name, instead of he/she.

I'm sorry that your dog has parvo. I do hope he gets better. With parvo, it's very difficult to treat and in a lot of cases, the animal doesn't make it. I do hope your pooch pulls through though. Just sit with him and make sure he drinks enough water.
