My guess would be border collie cross -and that is mostly because of the size and the markings. Do you know anything of your dog's background at all that would give some clues?

Of course - he could be one of those wonderful designer dogs like mine who is a true one off (also known as a mutt)! No idea what is in the mix at all but could not be more loved and appreciated even if she had the longest pedigree going!

The rescue found her as a stray so there is no other information on her. She is from the country-- literally in the middle of WV, so BC would seem appropriate because of all the land and farms out that way. The thing is, she is not active or playful or hyper like a BC! She is super smart, though.

I would have to agree with border collie, and maybe Lab too. Shes a pretty dog, What are you calling her?

I've just replied to your other thread - the vet thinks my old girl is part collie but she has never shown any collie traits - never tried to herd or nip or any of the typical collie attributes. Not sure my old girl is particularly smart - she is keen to please which can be the same thing!

definitely border collie mix. looks almost exactly like a dog i know - smooth-coated border collie mixed with probably a retriever type breed.
