Unanswered: what kind of dog do i have?
My dog is about 3 1/2 to 4 1/2 months old. I'm a musician by trade and one night I was walking through a bad area on my way to a show when a disheveled looking woman came up to me with a wriggling pillowcase and said she wanted me to look inside. There were 2 baby puppies in there with their eyes hardly open. She said they "came from good fighters" and might have some wild dog in them, or they might be belgian shepherds. I couldn't leave the dogs with her so I offered her 20$ for both and took them home and called the cops. I didn't want to name them at first because I wasn't sure if they would make it. When I took them to the vet and they both checked out with clean bills of health I bottle fed them for about a week and a half. After that my sister in law got one, and I kept the smaller one.
I never had a puppy before, and haven't had too many big dogs before either. I named mine Otter because when I first got him he looked like a baby Otter.
Otter is already grown past my knee, and has dug a 3 foot tunnel in my yard. His brother is about 55lbs already, and Otter is probably closer to 45. He is all brown with a black snout, his ears turn upwards slighty, and has a long curly tail. He's a good dog, I love him dearly. I took him to the park to let out some energy and after 3 hours of running, he was still good to go. At night he howls, like awhoooing. He's pretty muscular already, and one time when I was outside late at night an intruder came and started screaming at me on my front step, my sister had to come down and restrain Otter from trying to break through the screen door to come out to me.
I know he's going to be a big dog, but I'd like to know what breed he is. He isn't a pit, and i feel like there is some Shepherd in him but his brother got all the shepherd markings. Im pretty curious. Thanks for listening!
Oh also! Whats a really good dog food? The puppy chow I gave him made him sick, along with Chef Michaels. We've been trying out different brands and they all seem to make him pretty gassy.

Don't give your dog and brand of food that you can buy at Wal-mart. I would suggest Blue Buffalo or Taste of the Wild, or even Chicken Soup dog food. Don't buy Science Diet either. It has corn in it and cause allergies.

Otter is a lucky guy
Do you have a pic you can post of Otter?
I have done a lot of research on dog foods after my experience with lymphoma in my dog. Blue Buffalo is the best. Only slightly more expensive than some of the popular brands but definitely worth the difference.
Have fun with Otter and enjoy every minute. They are so worth all the effort and will give you back more than you can imagine.

Those are also my personal choices in dog foods.
Nice on rescuing those dogs & taking them in! Welcome to the forum.

A rolled up newspaper can be an effective training tool when used properly. For instance, use the rolled-up newspaper if your dog chews up something inappropriate or has a housebreaking accident. Bring the dog over to the destroyed object (or mess), then take the rolled-up newspaper and hit yourself over the head as you repeat the phrase,"I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG, I FORGOT TO WATCH MY DOG!"

I thought I did post a picture? I sent something on the tags but it said I needed over 50 posts ? Its just hard to tell with brands and im a little nervous to keep testing different ones because some of them make him puke/really gassy. I know most kibble is no good but it seems every dog food brand says its the best

Are you slowly switching over when you change foods? Your pups stomach needs a slow food change verses a quick one or you'll upset his stomach.
Gas usually means they have an intolerance to a food or they are eating bad quality foods.
Buy a dog food that is rated 6 or 5 stars from this list: Dog Food Reviews - Main Index - Powered by ReviewPost
Both Chef Michael & Puppy Chow are crappy dog foods with a lot of bad fillers. Dogs don't get much nutrients from it regardless of what the advertisers say. They will say what they want just for you to buy it. The good quality is more expensive BUT the amount you feed is less (because it has less filler) AND it makes your dog healthier! Which means less time & money spent at the vets. Bad quality is cheap and both you and your dog will pay for it.
If after 1 1/2 months of the good dog food, your pup still has stomach problems, it's likely he's intolerant to a specific ingredient. Then you'll want to do a food trial to see which ingredient(s) is causing the problem. But that is way down the line.
For now just get him on a good quality food.
Dog Food Reviews - Main Index --> Pick a brand that has 6 or 5 or even 4 stars! The one's you've picked are like a 1 or 2, if your lucky.

i can't afford to keep my dog in anything out of a bag - the cheapest stuff i could bear to give him was $45/bag. it recommended 1-3/4c per day and at the end of 2wks, he was a rack of bones. i increased it, then increased again - and at the maintenance level of nearly 3c/day, he was chewing through a big bag every 10 days!
for less than $135/month i feed him raw meat and bone, have done for three years and he's in tip-top shape.
new on this forum so i might have missed the pic of your dog....?
