My dog died bout a year ago and we burried him in the back yard..I was wondering if it would be morbid of me to dig up his bones and keep them?

I have my Corky buried in my yard (was put to sleep on June 10, 2010). All I can say is that I would not want to dig him up for any reason unless MAYBE I was going to not live here anymore and then it still would be a hard decision but I don't like the idea of someone else living here and have 'control' over things--Like if they wanted to build/dig in that area! I really don't want to see what is left of him but if I did dig him up for the reason given----I would still be burying him hopefully wherever I relocated. If it wasn't possible to have him buried wherever I relocated---I might then consider cremating if it was possible after the fact---Just so I could have him where I was. I would never want to just save the bones though!

I am not sure if I would call it morbid----depends on your reason, what your intentions are. Are you planning on cremating?

I think it would be for the best to leave the remains where they are. Your dog lives on in your heart and your memories- having his remains won't help you too feel closer to him. Please don't upset yourself by digging them up.

I am not sure if the body would be decomposed enough to only be bones after a year. I recently read that if you bury a pet too deep, it may be a long time. The bacteria and other things needed to clean it up are in the first few feet.

I would not want to dig up the body either. Did you keep a collar, dog tags or a favorite toy? Would that work just as well?

I have pictures of my dead pets, when they were dead. Some might call that morbid.

probably not bones yet - it can take 2 to 5 years for total decomp.

the only reason i'd do it would be to cremate the remains and have them put in an urn . they have LifeGems - synthetic diamonds (structurally identical to genuine but grown in a lab) created from cremated remains - but for that kind of money, i'd rather start something in Dandy's name; maybe some kind of annual award to the person who's made the most progress with their dog in teaching them tricks, dog has to be a rescue and the tricks have to be certified. (sounds facetious, but teaching a dog tricks is THE best way to get a dog and owner to bond and pretty muchs makes the forever home bulletproof. quite frankly, i'd dump my husband before i dumped my dog).
