Unanswered: Raw Diet??
Hello,
I'm new to this forum so I'm not sure if anyone has asked about this yet. Anyways I have a 5 month old puppy and recently i've came across and a lot of information on the internet about this raw diet for animals. I havent owned a pet in almost 8 years so I spend a lot of time talking to people or searching the internet for everything that has to do with dogs. I want to make sure my puppy is 100 percent healthy and 100 percent loved. So I've been reading about dog foods in the past 2 weeks or so. I've read a lot of horror stories about whats in dog food i.e. other stay dogs, flea collars from the strays and plastic bags. It was frightening to me because I would never feed my dog any of this ever! So I was looking into other things and came across this "Raw diet" it consist of your animal only eating raw meats like steak, chicken and organs and what not. Has anyone ever tried this? Or is anyone currently on this raw diet for their animals? The raw chicken is kinda scary to me with the bones and the whole fact its raw. Now I do know wild animals eat raw, this is the only way they can eat. If anyone has any suggestions on this please let me know. Any response would be greatly appreciated! Thank you!

Ok, raw bones are not harmful. Raw chicken bones do not splinter like cooked chicken bones do and dogs digest raw bones quite easily. Raw chicken is fine. Dogs have a natural immunity to salmonella.
If you feel uncomfortable with it, you can try All Natural Dog Food | Dehydrated Raw Dog Food | Like Homemade Pet Food I have heard nothing but wonderful things about it.

oh, look up corky's posts on raw food diet - valuable information there.
i only feed my dog raw food diet - beef, chicken, lamb, goat, turkey - bones and all.
no pork (makes him fart)
no fish (smells gross when he belches and murder on the breath)
and rarely eggs (cause he doesn't like them).
he also eats sweet potato, yellow potato, green beans, sugar snap peas, broccoli, dragonfruit, and banana among other stuff.

Go raw!
Cali, I was uncertain about starting my 4 girls on the raw diet, but they had so many "food allergies" (which I believe is a euphemism for "poisoning by bad kibble") that constant vet visits were bankrupting me. I knew there had to be something I could do for them without bombarding their little systems with antibiotics and steroids (MORE poison!)
There is great info on so many sites and forums....just do your homework. Don't trust EVERYTHING you read, be diligent. And use your good common sense that you apply to your own diet....including variety, correct proportioning, essential nutrients and avoid those things doggy systems cannot tolerate.
You can't be a raw diet expert overnight...it takes time and there is some trial and error, but isn't your new baby worth the effort?
Simply by posing the question on this forum is a GREAT start for you. You're a good mom! Best of luck.

Raw meat is great for dogs and they love it too. You can also feed him home cooked food as that will be healthy and safe.

I have put about 48 links in this thread you might want to check out--- Scroll to the top of the page to start at the beginning! See all the posts for the links as I put them in more then 1 post.---> Hi there, pet parents!
Title of the thread is misleading as I started out trying to give that person some help and it ballooned into 'a book.'
