I started showing as a kid. Around 13 years old.
I showed extensively again starting 1988. I showed
Rottweilers.
I changed breeds in 1999 and current own and show
Chinese Shar Pei. We are off to a show tomorrow in fact.
I have a 7.5 month old junior puppy and a 15 month old
open male.
I am 100% for the betterment of any breed by following
responsible breeding practices and breeding ONLY to
standard.
Showing gives an owner a 3rd person perspective of
their dog. I think showing is a good thing if you plan on breeding,
or if you have a nice dog and simply want to have fun.
Showing should always be fun.

Well since im a junior I cant say I have TONS of experience. But its great fun. I started ever since I was 7 I think around that age. And I plan on showing for a LONG time. Im hopeing to become a handler one day. Anyways.
Yes I show my dogs.
I show any dogs that get handed to me. But -my- dogs that I show on a regular basis are Schipperkes And Parson Russell Terriers.
Lets see, the schipperkes were all around 6 months (The minnium age to start showing). The Parson is going to start showing at 6 months also. (1 month to go)
I defiantly am more strict about how dogs are put together. Since I actually know what the breed is capable of having, if its a nice front of pretty head peice. But most judges allready know what they are looking for.
What made me interested in dog showing.... hmm well my mom sighned me up one day without any knowledge of what im suppose to do. Even though I didnt win, it made me learn and try harder to make a goal to win. When i finally got my first placement I was one happy person, and it made me want to grow higher and higher and hopefully win a BIS (Best In Show) one day.
There are most likely going to be good AND bad experiences. I have had bad, most of my bad experiences are of me not being a good sport because I lost, or the judge has no clue what they are looking for and I know for a fact I have the best dog. But there are plenty more good experiences, such as Winning, socalizing, having a good time, getting out of the house, being apart of a unknown sport, etc. Its all great fun!!!! (Good Luck)

Hello to all.
I have been involved in dog showing since birth, lol. My mother is a show breeder as was my grandfather. Around here, as soon as you start walking, you start learning to show, lol.
I show in both AKC and UKC venues. My breed and lifelong love is Miniature Pinschers. My now hubby started going to the shows with me when we dated and easily became hooked. He started helping me show mine when I had conflicts, dogs going back in against each other ect.
He then decided he wanted his own breed to show....and he came to fall in love with Pugs.
I am also involved with Beagles. That came about because my now adult son went head over heels for them. We got him a mentor and he has done some great things in the ring already. The dogs are his, but I learned along with him since this mentor has such great things to teach and I always love learning about new breeds.
I have in the past been an all breed handler on a small scale. Now I show within the family, but still am summoned at times to take a dog in for someone be it class or group if a comnflict arises.
Judging....while I am not a judge, showing gives you a totally new perpsective on conformation.
