Hello everyone. I just found this forum while looking for help about shows. I am doing a report on showing animals and since I've never been to a show myself, I need some help from some experience showers.

How old are you? Are you male or female?


Where are you located or where do you attend shows?


What animal do you show? What breed?


What are the standards for that breed?


How long have you been breeding?


How long have you been showing?


What made you decide that you wanted to get into showing?


How many awards have you won since you’ve begun showing?


Who is your best show quality animal? What’s his/her age and how long has he/she been showing?


What are the common genetic faults of the breed you show? (hip displaysia in retrievers, etc.)


What actions do you take to be sure those faults are not passed on to the next generation?


Do you currently have any animals that have the genetic fault?

Where do you buy the animals that go into your breeding program?


Where are the breeding animals housed? How large are their enclosures? Do you have any pictures? If so, please provide a link.


What type of diet do your breeding animals have? Do you add anything extra to their diet while they are pregnant?


How many litters have you had since you’ve begun to show? How many animals do you currently have?


How many litters do you have in a year? How many times is the female bred in her lifetime?


Unfortunately, there is a risk to breeding. Have you ever lost the mother or babies? If so, how many and what were the complications?


Have you or do you currently breed related animals to get the perfect look? (inbreeding) If so, how many generations until you introduce a non-related animal to the program?


Do you sell the pets that will not be going into showing? To whom do you sell them to? What’s your process of finding the right home for them?


Do you live in an area that has a high overpopulation of the animal you breed?


Describe in detail the average show that you attend. (How many animals usually attend, how they are housed, what and how often they are fed, grooming routine, etc.) Do you have any pictures? If so, please provide a link to them.
