Default What are those weird names they have at dog

shows for? You know like the dog's name will be "Toto" or something and above it it'll say something like "There's no place like home"or some other phrase or something like "the fighting champion", what is that?

no two akc registerd dogs can have the same name. Therefore it is important to choose an unusual name for the dog. Usually they add to the name of one of the parents such as "puricorn easy's ushi adorabeau". If you send in paper work and the name is a replicate you have to rename the dog. But you usually just call the dog beau.

PaintedR is right on the money. Imagine how confusing it would be if they just had regular dog names- several dogs could be called by the same name- you wouldn't know who was who , even if you had a program ! It's the same in every animal breed registry- horses, cats, even sheep and cattle. It's just the way it is, to truly identify a particular animal, and often indicate it's breeding and bloodlines.

the "fancy" name is the registered (the dogs in the dog shows are not mutts-they are purebreds-so they are registered to prove their lineage-) name of the dog-it usually depicts it lineage-it may contain the name of it's parents/grandparents (as they were also registered) so it is quite a long drawn out name-then the dog also has what's it's "normal" family calls it on an everyday basis.

thats the registered nameany animal that is bred and registered (horses, dogs, cats, rabbits, whatever) has a common name (what we use) and a registered name (the name on their papers) they do this because its a lot easier to figure out which of three "there's no place like home" than hundreds of "toto"
