There is an AKC all-breed dog show in my town once a year in the Springtime (March/April). I'm not sure how long it's been held, but I've been attending (as a spectator) since I was a kid in 1981. Being a nut for dogs all my life, I always enjoy seeing the dogs most people don't see everyday, such as Salukis, Borzois, Scottish Deerhounds, Field Spaniels, Clumber Spaniels, Ibizan Hounds, Pharoah Hounds, Sussex Spaniels, American Water Spaniels.... And I always take lots of photos! Some years there aren't any Field Spaniels, Sussex Spaniels or American Water Spaniels though. Can you tell my favorites are sighthounds & spaniels*LOL* OH! And once in a great while I will be lucky enough to find an exhibitor who has brought along a non-AKC breed.... Two different years I met ladies who had a Longhaired Whippet (she had a Borzoi entered); and a lady who had an Azawakh (had Whippets entered). BTW-an Azawakh is a rare sighthound breed from Morocco.
The past couple years, although I still attend the local AKC show; my passion has switched to attending rare breed shows. These shows are a 5-hour drive away from where I live so I only go to 1-2 per year. The only thing I don't like about the rare breed shows is that there are no vendors of any kind, not even food or drinks.
