Default I am looking for information on showing dogs. I live in Tacoma Washington.?

I have a Male Akita that I am curious about getting involved in showing. He seems to meet breed standards. I would just like to talk to someone that knows what they are talking about.

Hi Wally,
!st make sure you have you dog AKC registered. Then what you need to do is actually go to a dog show. Just because you decided he fits the standard doesn't mean he's going to win in the ring. You need to go to the shows and see what the judges are actually looking for. Talk with the other breeders there AFTER they are done showing. Ask one of them to go over your dog for you and tell them to pick him apart for you and don't hold nothing back then you'll have a good idea where your at with your dog.
We have a show comming up in Elma May 5th at the fairgrounds. That's a all breed show. I haven't noticed alot of Akita breeders in our shows here in WA other than the show up at Shelton this year but don't really pay attention to the other breeds as we show pekingese.
We went through the same thing you are now and someone gave me the same advice and it was a good thing they did because it saved us from a whole lot of embarassment. Although our dogs fit the standard they were no where near what is actually in the ring. It just takes a little homework an you'll be on your way.
