Default How do you get involved in showing dogs?

Im thinking about showing my rottie pup when its older. Where is the best place to start! My puppy is coming from a registered breeder in NZ. I am buying the dog with papers. Not a lot of breeders that i have come across so far are keen on giving breeding rights either.I appreciate your feedback. ThankxForgot to mention i live in NZ. Have tried to contact them but i have got more advice from everyone here than the NZKC.

When you purchased your pup was he show quality, as not every puppy in the litter will be. Probably best if you ring your breeder and ask them for advise. Go to a few shows and just watch what they are doing and ask questions, not when the person is busy. Good Luck.

If you intend to show your puppy you will need the papers and I am sure the breeder can guide you in the right direction. You also must belong to the Kennel Club of the state/country you reside in.There are many types of dog shows so for you puppy i would suggest an open show so as you will not be competing against older and more experienced owners and dogs.I would first ask the breeder of your puppy if it is of show quality. Good luck

Check with your local obedience clubs. Most of them have beginners showmanship training. It's your best bet for starting out on the right foot.

AKC.org should tell you what you need to know.
