Default Co-Ownership

I am interested in purchasing a puppy that I plan to show, either myself or with a handler. The breeder of this puppy asked if I'd be willing to co-own. What does this typically entail? What are my responsibilities? His? I won't have a chance to talk with him again till next weekend and wanted to get an idea of what's the norm in this practice before I commit. Thanks for any input you all might have

Many breeders who have dogs they think are show/breeding quality are reluctant to give a puppy to a new show person/novice without a co-ownership. Some of these arrangments can be very draconian and the AKC actually does not encourage it. However, it may be the only way a new person to the sport can get a quality dog. What it entails entirely depends on the breeder's contract. Often breeders expect at least one puppy back. They may also dicatate who you can breed your dog to and even who you may use as a handler.
