I want to start in Junior Handling...I need advice!
Hello again,
I want to start Junior Handling. I only have two dogs. Kerra: white boxer, brown mask, black circled eyes, brown spot above stub tail, and brown patch on hind leg. Theo: black Golden Retriever / Rottweiler crossbreed. Would it be possible for me to register with one or both of these dogs? I wanted to register to the AKC. Does anyone have any advice, suggestions, or comments??? I need help here! More info will come as needed. Thanks in advance...

check with your local kennel club for handeling classes - you can find them by going to the AKC site.
obviously your mixed breed cannot be registered with AKC & unless both your boxers parents are AKC registered he can't be either.
white boxers are not permitted to show in any AKC conformation classes.
since at this time you have nothing showable I don't know if you are still permitted to take the classes or not.

Well, you may be able to ILP the Boxer but, if the mix looks like a mix, there is not much you can do....... I am new on this site but, if you can send private mesages do that. I have been handling for 4 years and I could probably give ya' some tips.

That doesn't matter. In juniors, the dog may be spayed/neutered, and have disqualifying faults. They do not judge the dog, only the handler. It would help to have a nice dog though. The dog must be registered with the AKC though, in which both parents must be AKC registered, or have an ILP number.

A good place to start is in 4-H dog club. You can participate with either of your dogs in 4-H. They'll teach you what you need to know about handling, both conformation and obedience. Your leader will also be able to assist you if you need to get an ILP number for your Boxer, so you can participate in AKC shows.
I don't know all of the particulars about UKC, or if they have an junior handler program, but that might also be another avenue you could explore.

I think AKC have standards you need to check before they let you register your pet...

The only "standards" they have before you can register you pet is that both parents are registered with AKC, and the breeder registered the litter. Each puppy in the litter is then issued an application, which needs to be filled out and submitted with the appropriate fee, and the pup is then registered.
Dogs can have disqualifying faults and still be registered. They just can't participate in conformation classes. They can, however, participate in obedience, field trials, agility, and other non-conformation classes.
