Default How to get started showing a dog?

Is there anything like a "casual" dog show? Or at least a show that is suited to someone who would like to learn about showing dogs? I am not sure we are the dog-show types but am interested in finding out by getting our new Vizsla puppie ready.

Thanks for any thoughts on this.

check out the AKC site for local kennel clubs. they have handling classes for people to learn about showing. American Kennel Club - Clubs

have you talked to your breeder?

Yes - first off - there are matches. These are hosted by clubs, breed clubs or general regional clubs. You can use the AKC website listed in the above thread to find one or more of these in your area.

Also - consider showing with the United Kennel Club United Kennel Club: UKC UKC's shows tend to be a lot more informal - so they are a bit less intimidating than AKC shows - also no professional handlers are permitted to show other's dogs in UKC - so the competition is a bit more laid back as well.

join clubs or organizations... Usually they advice or they have seminars for people who are interested in shows...
