Question Summer job, helping show?

I was wondering if it is common for a handler of show dogs, or a dog trainer to accept aprentices for the summer. I am currently in college and am looking to travel with someone to help with their dogs. Last year I worked at a dude ranch, I am looking into canine careers now.

So, do you know if this done, and if so, where should I look for these opportunities. ( I have no experience in showing, but I know my way around dogs, and fieldwork. ) Thanks In advance. My email is KoPuPe@aol.com

Professional handlers will sometimes have apprentices, but they are seldom paid. I know the only "pay" I received was an education in the ways of the dog show world.

it is non-paying but what you learn is well worth it. You can search on-line for AKC & PHA handlers. Or go to a dog show and talk to people. The othe option is working for a breeder, help at the kennel, at shows, etc. What area do you live? I can try to point you in the right direction.
