Exclamation Future Agility Champ!! Needs new Home :(

I tend to get long winded on the subject, so I'll keep this short, but will be glad to discuss further upon inquiry.

My dog Jynx (photo's to come...) is a Basenji/(some kind of terrior?) mix. He's absolutely built for speed and agility! I can't leave him alone in the back yard because he can effortlessly scale the chain link fence! He doesn't just jump to the top and scramble over... he JUMPS it! (So he can get to the neighbor's cat-food dish!) He's well trained and well behaved, just too darn SMART for his own good sometimes! He loves learning new things and will stay focused even with distractions looming near...

Like I said, I'm trying to keep this short, for now. So here's the problem...

I'm leaving for world travel soon. This has been a dream of mine since I can remember and I can't pass it up, no matter how much it hurts to give up my best friend. He goes everywhere with me, but unfortunately he can't come along this time. I OWE it to him to try to find him the best new life I can, and I know he would not only LOVE agility (or any kind of ACTIVE lifestyle for that matter), but he would excel at it and make his new person proud!

I live in St. Petersburg (Tampa), FL and don't have a lot of money, but I'm willing to do what I can to place him in a good new life. My last option for him is to send him to live with my Mom in Ocala. She has land but not a lot of time to spend and no other animals. He would be lonely alot there. I know he would quickly grow on her, but she's not a 'dog-person', and he is very much a 'people-dog'.

Any thoughts, ideas, questions are welcome and encouraged. I really need some help on this, it's my last big hurdle!

Still didn't manage to keep it very short!

I would put some adds up on craigslist as well. Newspaper adds are also good ideas. If you must submit him as a last resort try to find a rescue group who will take mixed breed dogs or a no kill shelter. Good luck and I hope you find him a great home.

I talked to this guy (he worked at the airport ) once and he said that they want very crazy very energetic dogs for detector dogs at airports and alike. They want dogs that do not tire and are freindly. They like dogs that do not scare people like GSD's. Perhaps you should contact these types in your area?

How long are you going for, have you considered trying to find a boarding kennel that might be willing to continue working with him whilst you are away, at least then whe you get back home your friend will still be there waiting for you

I know that alot of vetrinary clinics and hospitals usually are tied into agility clubs. Some of them have bulletin boards that will let you post a photo and description of your dog, and some even have adoption boards. Sounds like you've got a high speed pup on your hands.

If you had human children would you give them up to travel? I don't mean to sound harsh but, I am so sick and tired of people who take on animals and then decide that their needs and wants supercede those of the animal they have promised to provide a good life for.
