Default spray collars for barking?

has anyone purchased one of these?
do they work for uncontrollable barking?

for those who dont know..its a collar with a little box attached containing citronella..and when the dog barks..it sprays in its face.

they go for around 100$..

I'd never heard of spray collars for barking, I've heard of the shock collars though. The ones with a little shock box that goes directly over the dog's voice box and whenever they bark, the dog gets shocked. I remember seeing on tv where a woman had bought one for her dog because her neighbors were complaining about the barking, and the dog eventually got a throat tumor. Her vet said it was because of the shock collar.

I wonder if the shock collar did have anything to do with it?

It does sound a bit extreme having to give your dog a shock to shut it up. Negative reinforcement all the way.

I've heard of the spray collars but never used one. Possibly because my dog isn't a barker!

I've got a husky mix, and he's very vocal when he sees someone in the street, but our neighbors don't complain. I think they've gotten used to him, we've been here a year now, and even use him as a notification of when one of us has visitors.

We had a collie once, and she wouldn't shut up. She barked at everything, including the wind. I swear I wouldn't be able to see anything, but she'd be going crazy as if there was an intruder right behind me or something. I think it depends alot on the dog's temperment.

I heard about these spray collars. I must say that the spray collar is less harsh than the shock collar. I am not exactly sure if it will work though. What if the dog barks more because the spray irritates him? That's funny.

Are you serious about the shock collars? I have never heard of this. I talked to the vet about it before hiring our trainer and the vet said there is no harm to using them.

I don't know if any testing had been done, i would hope so...but i would imagine the continual shocking from dog collars with stubborn dogs could cause nerve damage..anyone else think of this?

I had a friend who used citronella collars on her small yippy dogs. they seemed to work but were indeed very expensive, can get them for cheap on eBay though! I love the Internet heehee
