Default New Baby and dogs!

Okay, so my neighbors (the ones that don't walk their dogs.) are expecting a baby any week now and they have two dogs. The dogs have not been around new born babies or any babies for that fact.
I know that you should let the dogs smell the new room and clothes and fix any behavior problems. I also read that carrying around a baby doll helps to. But I don't think they are preparing their dogs at ALL!

Will the dogs just adjust to the new Baby without any preparation? I know that no matter how good you think your dog is you should at least give your dog the chance to adjust before hand. I will e-mail my sister in law and ask her.

Any suggestions? Thanks!

I have to agree with everyone, this could be a very sad thing!! 21 years ago I brought home my second baby with no preperation of the dogs, but we were first, very stupid, second we had a 4 year old that was about 3 when we got the second dog and 2 when we got the first dog. The dogs just seemed to know how to be around the baby, but I think we were very LUCKY!! By the time the 3rd baby came a year later the first dog was gone, (sad story, nothing with the baby) and the dobermine left was the best baby dog ever. Never trained him at all, he just knew his job was to watch those kids. Till his dying day he did just that. Oh crap now I am crying again and I am not even pregnant like dumbdog1964.
Also, Dumbdog, you could show them that series of pictures you had in another thread about a dog and a baby!

Exclamation

One dog is a mix of German Shepherd 45lbs, the other is a Chocolate Lab 70lbs. The chocolate Lab is territioral of the house! Like one time I was over and the owners got new furniture put in. The movers put the couch down and left. The lab came in and peed where the two guys had been standing! I am hoping he does not pee on the new baby which I am afraid could happen! They don't know a lot about dogs and aren't the brightest when it comes to training them.

I wouldn't tolerate such behavior either! I mean my dog does not beg, does not sleep on the furniture, and is always supervized with kids of any age!

But my neighbors are just not the brightest when it comes to dogs as I said before! I tell them tips that they can try and I haven't noticed them doing any! I just printed this article on how to introduce your new baby and the dogs and I will give it to them today. Hopefully they'll read it! I wouldn't be surprised if they didn't!
