Default Dog jumping fence

Our family just acquired a stray beagle about 3 years of age. Whenever we let it out to pee in our fenced in back yard, it jumps the fence. We never had problems with our other dog, a black lab/ golder retriever mix. How do I get my dog to stop jumping the fence? I honestly can say it is dumber than my other dog, it just can't learn anything.

My neighbors dog jumpes the fence also. You just have to watch him when he is out there and when he looks like he is going to jump, say, NO!

Also, exersice helps. A tired dog won't feel the need to jump.

Try a dog door. Sometimes when my neighbors dog jumped it was because she wanted back inside.

An invisible fence works to. But not all dogs are deterred by the mild shock. Some dogs just go through it.
Hope i have helped!

Yes, and thats what I was thinking of, saying "NO" when she tries to jump, but my backyard is fairly big and we have snow, so it's kind of hard catching her in the act of it. But yes, thats my plan when spring rolls around, because I will be able to be right outside with her and will be able to see her.

Well, snow is hard to stand out there with him then. Just watch him from a window if you can.

You could also try using an e-collar, after the dog understands that you do not want it to jump, that way even when you are farther away, and maybe not seen by your dog, you still can correct the behavior, and the dog will say,"Hey, even when they aren't around I can't jump!"

Well, the only problem with the anti-jump harness that I know of is that my neighbors dog chewed it off within several hours. But it does'nt hurt to try. Not all dogs react the same.

Default i know this is about a month late

...but I thought I would come back here after I tried some things. Well we chained her to our deck, and that seems to work except she can only poop and pee in one area, plus, being chained up is just unfair when my other dog gets to run all around. But then, the other day, she chewed out of her regular collar to get out. She was not out for 5 hours, nor 4 or 3. She was out for 5 minutes. I think the solution is temporary for now, chained to the deck. In the spring, the snow will be gone, and it will be harder to jump the fence, so I'll see how she's doing then. Also have another problem though, she eats cat food non-stop. We put the cat food up on the table, but then my cat just whines all the time. So not sure where to go on that one...

When we started putting our cat food up, we had to put it on a desk with the chair out just a little so that the cats could jump from chair to desk. Now, they don't need the chair anymore, as it is old hat for them to now eat there.
Rex had to learn the leave it command all over again, when my kids would put tuna juice in with the cat food and he was then big enough to put his front feet up and steal away. I caught him the very first time, and he learned his lesson rather well, but we now say leave it, whenever the bowl is put there. So far so good.
